The HADC recognizes the importance of downtown Hartford revitalization and has assumed a leadership role in on-going planning and implementation. The current plan, developed in partnership with the BID, the Chamber of Commerce, City of Hartford Staff, First National Bank of Hartford and supported by Vandewalle & Associates, is progressing nicely.
Early success was realized when Second Chance Ventures purchased the former Hilt Hotel and Mole Hole properties. Both were vacant at the time of purchase and the vision for each is to have street level retail or commercial businesses and upper level apartments. Construction work is progressing on each with completion expected on the Hilt Hotel by the end of the year and on the Mole Hole by the end of the first quarter 2017. The Mole Hole is being renamed as the Welsch Building in honor of a former owner.
A new business is coming to downtown. On September 17 Furnish Traders will open for business in the building formerly housing St. Vincent DePaul on Main St. The business will feature high quality antique furniture and accessories, much of it placed their on consignment.
One of our catalytic development projects, a new business hotel, is making good progress and hopes to begin construction in early November with a target opening date by the end of May 2017.
We continue to seek quality developers to work with on numerous other projects downtown. Watch and listen for further announcements in the near future.
