Can I use the solid waste sticker for curbside pickup of appliances?: No. There is a fee of $15 which needs to be paid in advance for curbside pickup of metal appliances or $25 for curbside pickup of TVs (this includes water heaters, metal water softeners, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners). Fee are payable at the city hall Finance Department counter. Scheduling pickup is done at the Engineering Department counter.

1. If Holidays fall on my regular garbage and recycling collection day, when does my garbage get collected?: When there is a collection date missed due to a holiday, your regular garbage collection day is bumped back 1 day (i.e. if Memorial Day is on Monday, garbage is collected on Tuesday, Tuesday’s garbage is then collected on Wednesday, Wednesday’s garbage is collected on Thursday and Thursday’s garbage is collected on Friday). If the holiday is on a Wednesday, for instance, Wednesday's collection will be on Thursday and Thursday's collection will be on Friday. If the holiday falls on a Friday, Friday pickup would be bumped up to Thursday.

2. Why didn't ADVANCE crews pick up my mattress, couch, dresser, etc... which I put out with my regular garbage?: Residents need to call 673-8261 by 4:20 pm Thursdays to get on the Friday Excessive Garbage list. Advance purchase of a Solid Waste Sticker from City Hall is required. City crews will pick up these non-metal bulky items Curbside every Friday if you are on the list and have purchased and affixed a $20 green sticker (per item).

3. Why didn't I receive Recycling and Garbage Carts from the city when I moved into my newly constructed home?: Homeowners need to contact the City at 262-673-8261 to request one free recycling cart and one free garbage cart after they move in. Because we do not know the date people will move into their new homes, they must call to request the delivery of the carts.

4. How do I pay for garbage and recycling collection?: Garbage collection is included on your real estate tax bill as a service; however, the recycling charge is placed on your monthly utility bill.

5. If I live in the Towns of Hartford or Erin and my address is "Hartford" can I drop off items at the City's Recycling Center?: No. You must be a resident of the City to use the city’s recycling center except for waste oil which can be dropped off by Town of Hartford and Town of Erin residents. You will be required to show proof of residency at the Center. If you pay real estate taxes to the Towns of Erin or Hartford they must provide you with recycling opportunities.

6. Why didn't they pick up my discarded pumpkins with my garbage?: Pumpkins are considered "garden waste" and should be dropped off at the compost bin at the Recycling Center during Recycling Center hours.

7. How do I dispose of roots?: Roots can be disposed of at the Recycling Center compost bin during Recycling Center hours.

8. Can I rent the city's trailer for $20.00 to dispose of remodeling refuse or construction debris?: No, the city trailer can be rented for a fee of $20 per load to dispose of aggregate material such as concrete, asphalt, soil, sod and gravel-type materials. The trailer is an approximately 2.5 yard container (5-feet-by-5-feet-by-3-feet) and can be rented either over- night or over the weekend for the same fee. Only one trailer may be rented at a time.

9. Can I mix recycling items in the recycling cart?: Yes. All recycling materials should be placed in the cart.

10. 11. Can I drop off items at the Recycling Center anytime other than during Recycling Center hours?: No. The lot is off-limits except during scheduled Recycling Center hours of Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm and Saturday from 9 am to Noon. From April 1st to December 1st the Recycling Center is also open on Tuesday evenings from 5 pm to 7 pm.

13. How late will they be picking up leaves curbside in the fall?: Usually until the end of November or the first significant snowfall. After that, residents will have to bag their leaves and bring them to the Recycling Center during regular recycling hours.

14. How can I dispose of remodeling, construction or demo debris?: Please call the City's garbage and recycling contractor GFL at (920) 387-0987 for dumpster service. There will be an additional cost to you for this service.
